Correction and Retraction Policy
MUMTAZ : Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam upholds the integrity of the scholarly record and is committed to maintaining the accuracy of published academic literature. When errors, data inaccuracies, or publication ethics breaches are identified in published articles, the Editorial Board will execute corrective actions in a transparent manner aligned with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
1. Principles of Correction
The issuance of errata, corrigenda, or retractions aims to correct the scholarly record without obscuring the history of the published work. All notices regarding corrections or retractions are permanently linked to the original article to ensure readers are fully informed of alterations.
2. Types of Corrections
Depending on the nature and severity of the error, the Editorial Board applies specific correction types:
- Erratum: Issued to correct errors introduced by the journal or production process (such as layout typos, mislabelled table numbers, or copyediting mistakes) that affect the clarity of the text.
- Corrigendum: Issued to correct errors introduced by the authors (such as incorrect author affiliations, minor statistical typos, or omitted funding acknowledgments) that do not alter the main findings or conclusions of the study.
- Expression of Concern: Issued if the Editorial Board holds serious reservations regarding the validity of published findings, but conclusive evidence or institutional investigation results are not yet available.
3. Article Retraction
Article retraction is a serious ethical and legal mechanism invoked when published papers are fundamentally flawed due to severe data unreliability or ethical breaches.
Grounds for Retraction Include:
- Clear evidence that findings are unreliable as a result of data fabrication or falsification;
- Substantial plagiarism or redundant duplicate publication;
- Unethical research practices or lack of valid ethical clearance;
- Fatal authorship violations (such as ghost/gift authorship or unauthorized author inclusion).
Retraction Procedure: Retracted articles are not deleted from the digital archive to preserve record integrity. Instead, the PDF file is stamped with a "RETRACTED" watermark, and the article webpage displays an official Retraction Notice detailing the reasons for retraction.
4. Article Removal
Total removal of an article file from the journal's online platform is an extreme measure reserved strictly for exceptional circumstances, such as:
- Clear infringements of legal privacy rights endangering individual safety;
- Defamatory content violating legal standards;
- Court orders or severe copyright infringement mandates requiring material removal.
Even when a PDF is removed, the article title and metadata remain visible on the site accompanied by a note stating that the item has been legally removed.
5. Article Replacement
Article replacement is permitted only in rare instances involving severe public health risks or critical clinical/technical errors in the text. The original file will be replaced with a fully revised version, accompanied by an editorial note outlining the replacement history.
6. Editorial Workflow for Corrections and Retractions
Requests or notifications regarding errors in published articles should be submitted in writing to the Editorial Board via email at [email protected]. The editors will investigate the claim, consult with the original authors, and publish appropriate notices promptly to uphold scholarly credibility.
