Canva Sebagai Media E-Poster Kearifan Lokal Pesisir: Upaya Meningkatkan Keterampilan Menulis Teks Eksplanasi Siswa Madrasah Ibtidaiyah

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the effect of using Canva on the design of e-posters featuring local coastal wisdom on the explanatory writing skills of pupils at MI Manbail Futuh Jenu. This study employs a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design involving an experimental group and a control group. Data collection was carried out through explanatory text writing tests before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the intervention. Data analysis utilised independent sample t-tests, paired sample t-tests, and effect size calculations. The results of the study indicate that there is a significant difference between the writing abilities of students in the experimental group and the control group, with a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Furthermore, there was a significant improvement in students’ writing ability following the use of Canva, with an average increase of 20 points. The effect of using Canva was also classified as very strong, as indicated by an effect size of 1.71 (high category). The improvement in writing ability encompassed aspects of text structure, cause-and-effect relationships, language use, and content appropriateness. In addition to improving writing skills, the use of Canva-based e-posters featuring local coastal wisdom has also been shown to increase pupils’ interest and engagement in learning. Consequently, the integration of Canva and local coastal wisdom is an effective teaching strategy for improving pupils’ ability to write explanatory texts whilst strengthening their motivation to learn.
