Abstract

The decline in students' character in the era of globalization and digitalization, such as intolerance, cyberbullying, and drug abuse, has become a serious challenge for contemporary Islamic Religious Education. This study aims to analyze the concept of educators' role models according to K.H. Ahmad Dahlan and examine its relevance to strengthening character education. Using a literature study method with a content analysis approach, this research triangulates sources from the works and literature of K.H. Ahmad Dahlan's thoughts. The analysis results show that K.H. Ahmad Dahlan's concept of role modeling is based on three main values: the integration of religious knowledge and general knowledge, social care based on Al-Ma’un values, and an adaptive spirit of renewal (Tajdid). The study results confirm that these three values are highly relevant to the modern character education framework (Lickona) and the Merdeka Belajar education policy, especially in addressing ethical challenges in the digital era. This research implies that Islamic Education teachers need to transform their role from just being pursuers to becoming role models who are progressive, transformative, and holistic for their students.
